The movie 2037 is a movie that takes place against the background of the life of a young prisoner. This movie tells the life of a beautiful girl named Yoon Young who is 19 years old must spend her youth to adulthood in prison. Yoon Young was charged with the murder of a rape suspect who involved herself as a victim.
Yoon Young lives alone with her deaf mother after her father passed away. They take care of and protect each other because they only have each other. Unfortunately, one day tragedy strikes and ruins both of their lives. Yoon Young was raped by her mother's boss and killed her rapist who threatened her mother's safety if she told anyone else. That caused Yoong Young to be angry and hit the rapist with rocks repeatedly. Because of the death of his mother's boss he was imprisoned as a murderer who was actually a victim of abuse due to lack of evidence and witnesses.
Prons :
1. 2037 is a movie that tells the story of an inmate’s life in a prison cell.
2. Plot: The story begins when a young girl is imprisoned for defending her abuse case. The girl is initially not accepted by the other inmates but is eventually able to unite all the inmates because of her determination.
3. The movie has a forward flow and is easy to understand because it plays on the audience’s instincts.
4. Moral message: Through Yoon Young’s story, through the letters she wrote to her cellmates, we are reminded to learn to love each other in limitations, because only that can strengthen us.
Cons :
1. The characterization is only centered on Yoon Young, while the story of other characters is only like a complement that does not play much role.
2. The other stories of the people around Yoon Young are not explained, there are only scenes full of sadness that are too dramatic.
3. Some scenes are made mysterious, from the characters’ stories in prison to the ending that is difficult to conclude.
4. Director Mo Hong Jin chose an open ending to close the movie 2037. This means that the ending or end of the drama depends on the interpretation of the audience.
